I like both actually. They are quite different. Both charcoal mellowed. Dickel is MGP 95/5. Both very good IMHO.

Great review homie! Tasting shots of double black, green, gold reserve, and might hit some of my Sexton Irish single malt, Hennesy VS, and oh crap! I finsished my Sexton single malt 😥 All I can say right now is that reviewers always looking for the taste, but nobody is looking for the quality of the buzz. I definitely am in a good mood drinking the Johnnie Walker Gold with a shot or 2 of the green and some double black , but I've gotten "aggressive" with Jim Beam. MURICA! Fcuk yeah! Us Army veteran right here! Hooah! lol

i recently for the second time bought me a bottle of this as you already know the label is different but wondering if it's the same recipe? would you have any idea what whisky components go into this? i believe there is corn as a bas and perhaps a bit of rye but wondering if there is anything else like barely or wheat? another good hidden bottom shelf gem i discovered was hiram walkers special old you should give that a try it has been my go to and surprisingly perhaps my favorite whisky even more than the scotches i tried over the years it is smooth simple yet still has quite some flavors and character, unfortunately my last bottle was not so pleasant p[erhaps i hit a bad batch and this is disappointing as i was hoping it would remain consistent like ppl say it is, but you may get better luck trying it yourself

Always great to see a vid from you pop up! Smoke Wagon sounds like a good product, and will be something I'll look for should I ever get South of the border. Either way, I am happy to hear about different whiskies and expressions, as there are just far too many out there now to ever try more than a tiny sampling! My collection has pretty much hit critical mass, so not adding much of anything at the moment. I've been really focusing on Canadian craft distilleries for most purchasing. Even that is a daunting prospect, as they've sprung up all over the place...like very tasty mushrooms! Guessing life at your end has been busy. Absolute godsend for college kids, this was my favorite in grad school. Absolute steal at $12, tho I’ve not tried the single barrel or bottled in bond. IIRC this is made at the Barton 1792 distillery, so something like 1792 small batch or Very Old Barton might be a better analogue.

I'm also super late to this video and to your channel, and I agree with @starrarmy...this is really accessible and educational and definitely for those of us with good but not expert palates who want to take the whisky journey without snobbery. I'm watching this video because after taking a two year journey that culminated in the amazing experiences of Laphroaig 10 and Lagavulin 16, I had a Johnnie Black neat, on the rocks, and with Fever Tree Ginger Beer and I thoroughly enjoyed every last drop! I had also enjoyed a Red Label and tonic water at a wedding and loved how the bark and bite or the pepper of the Red cut through. I realized that I had fallen for the snobbery rhetoric about the brand and went to a local (Oakland, CA) whisky tasting bar and had several drams of Johnnie's, including the Green. Way better than I had been led to believe by the reviews. You have a down to earth style and your metaphors (e.g. sticks you burn to light church candles or smells and tastes like a rainy day) are super accessible. My personal favs right now are the Black and Green but you've encouraged me to check out the 18 year and the Double Black. Thank you for keeping it real!

I just got the 18 for freaking $169.95 Canadian Bucks. Canada and their alcohol prices 😂. A case of labat blue or a bottle of crown royal is even cheaper in USA than from where its originally coming from.

I did try drumcastle I like it very much I bought a second bottle and like better than Jamison I agree I enjoyed it straight no ice or water was smooth without adding I found on sale 14.99 normal 19.99 highly recommend on sale or not 👍

I prefer Ballantine because it is not peppery. I like my whiskey and cigars without that hard pepper taste.

I’m super late to this video. I watched it and instantly I feel into this channel. It’s educating without being pompous. Which is super rare in ANY of the alcohol tasting realms. This is how the average Joe mixed with a developed palate would think. Instantly liked the video and right away subscribed.

The 750ml bottles of Willett PSR are $49.99 at the distillery gift shop, they’re only $54.99 at my local liquor store. I took their distillery tour and they said PSR uses their wheated mash bill. For a wheater it’s a bit overpriced but it’s not the worst. Weller reserve I’ve not seen below $60 though, it’s hard to find in Illinois. I’ll stick to Maker’s and Larceny.

For me this was very disappointing. All of it hit you up front and then disappeared on the pallet. For me it tasted like watered down bourbon.

I think this is a great way to review. No fuss, no muss, and certainly no preconceptions. I love having my partner go down to the cellar, randomly pour something for me, take a picture of the bottle, and then let me try my damnedest to figure out just what the heck I'm sipping.
